Parent FAQ

Parent FAQ

What is the time commitment like?

Joining a sorority is definitely a time commitment, but there are also many benefits! Sigma Kappa will provide your daughter with academic support, leadership opportunities, and lifelong friendships! It is so important to get involved when joining a sorority of so many women. What you put into the sorority is what you will get out of it.

Since we value academics highly, we have a Scholarship Program that each member is required to follow along with. This ensures our members are putting an adequate amount of time into their school work.

Is there an academic requirement?

We do require that each member maintains a 2.7 overall GPA. If a member falls below the 2.7 minimum, then she will be given guidance from a member of the scholarship committee.

What are the financial responsibilities?

We understand that the financial responsibility can be overwhelming at first, but it is definitely manageable. If a payment plan is needed, then it can be arranged with our Vice President of Finance. Sigma Kappa is a not-for-profit corporation and relies on the national fees from its members to finance yearly operating expenses and chapter services. You can read more about those fees on our national website. Your daughter will be provided with a detailed breakdown of all the financial responsibilities should she join our chapter.

How can parents get involved?

Every semester we host a Family Day Event! This day will either be for the member's entire family to come and see what Sigma Kappa is all about, or sometimes, we do a Mom's Day or Dad's Day so it is a little more personable! We will let your daughter know when these events are coming up so you can plan accordingly!

What about after my daughter graduates?

After graduation, your daughter has the opportunity to remain involved in Sigma Kappa. With over 165,000 members worldwide and 106 alumnae chapters in 34 states, your daughter has the opportunity to connect with women wherever she goes in the coming years. Alumnae membership looks different for each of our members. Some are involved in an alumnae chapter that meets regularly for activities and service events while others are advisors for a local chapter. Our members are able to continue their personal and professional development with Sigma Kappa through social and philanthropic activities with other alumnae members.
